Firefighters Battle Fairfax Trailer Fire
A recreational vehicle caught fire Monday in Fairfax, setting off a series of small explosions from propane tanks in the trailer, a fire official said. No injuries were reported.
The fire broke out at about 2:20 p.m. at 57 Manor Road, where a 24-foot travel trailer was parked in a yard, said Ross Valley fire Battalion Chief Brian McCarthy.
The fire threatened a garage but fighters extinguished the flames before it could spread to the building, McCarthy said. The cause was under investigation.
"The smell was really acrid," said Patrice Hickox, who lives two properties from the scene. "There were a lot of things burning, I think, from the different kinds of smoke. You could see white smoke, black smoke, large flames."
Fairfax police closed the road for about an hour.
