Contracts and Procurement
Ross Valley Fire Department procures goods and services from suppliers in the local area as well as statewide, regionally, nationwide and in rare cases, internationally. It also enters into contracts with a wide variety of businesses and individuals for a broad spectrum of products and services. All procurement is governed by the Department’s commitment to quality, cost effectiveness, efficiency and fairness in a competitive arena as well as adherence to applicable statutes, rules and regulations; the integrity of its procurement process is of utmost importance.
NEW PUBLIC WORKS CONTRACTOR REGISTRATION LAW (SB 854)
As per the Department of Industrial Relations requirements, as of April 1, 2015 the Department may only award Public Works projects to contractors/subcontractors that are in compliance with the new Public Works Contractor Registration Law (SB 854).
Public Works are defined as projects involving any work done under contract and paid for in whole or in part out of public funds – except work done directly by any public utility company pursuant to order of the Public Utilities Commission or other public authority – in the following categories:
- Alteration
- Construction
- Demolition
- Installation
- Maintenance
- Repair
Contractors/subcontractors doing Public Works projects must register and meet requirements using the online application before bidding on Public Works contracts in California. The application also provides agencies that administer Public Works programs with a searchable database of qualified contractors/subcontractors. More information is available at the following links:

PREVAILING WAGE
If the cost for any Public Works project is expected to exceed $1,000, per the California Department of Labor Standards Enforcement (DLSE), Prevailing Wage Law shall apply.
